How we score our products

We built this site for one reason: to help you make confident buying decisions without wading through thousands of reviews yourself. Our scores are not opinions — they're derived from real buyer data across major US retailers. No paid placements. No sponsored rankings. Just math and transparency.

Our Scoring Methodology

Every product in our collection goes through a data-driven evaluation. We collect verified buyer ratings from major US retailers and e-commerce platforms, then convert them into our 10-point scale.

The formula is straightforward: we take the aggregate buyer rating — the number that represents thousands of real purchase experiences — and normalize it to a 10-point scale. Then we check for two red flags that a raw average can hide.

What We Check Beyond the Rating

Polarization Check

A product can have a 4.3-star average and still be a risky buy. How? When half the buyers rate it 5 stars and a quarter rate it 1 star, the "average" hides a split audience. We call this polarization.

We flag products where the overall rating looks solid but an unusually high share of buyers — 15% or more — left 1-star reviews. When we detect this pattern, we apply a small score adjustment and flag it on the product card so you can dig into the details before buying.

A polarization flag doesn't mean the product is bad. It means buyer experiences are inconsistent — and you should understand why before you commit.

Data Confidence

A 4.8-star rating from 30 reviews doesn't carry the same weight as a 4.5-star rating from 3,000 reviews. When a product has fewer than 100 verified ratings, we apply a small confidence adjustment to reflect the limited data.

We'd rather be slightly conservative with a new product's score than mislead you with a number that could shift dramatically as more people weigh in.

What Else We Consider

Beyond the core score, we evaluate additional factors when curating and positioning products within each collection:

Product Specifications and Features

We compare key specs across products in the same category — storage, battery life, display quality, build materials, connectivity — to ensure our collections represent the full range of what's available. Specs don't change the score itself, but they shape which products make it into a collection and how we organize them.

Category and Segment Positioning

Products serve different needs even within the same category — an entry-level option and a feature-packed flagship attract different buyers. We organize collections so you can quickly identify which products target your segment, whether you're looking for the essentials or the full package.

Brand Reputation and Reliability

We look at patterns across a brand's full product line — not just one model. Brands with consistently high scores across multiple products signal reliable quality control. Brands with erratic scores get extra scrutiny. This doesn't override individual product data, but it adds context when products are closely matched.

Popularity and Market Validation

Products with tens of thousands of verified purchases have been market-tested at scale. While popularity alone doesn't determine a score, it provides an additional layer of confidence that the product delivers on its promises. A well-scored product with 10,000 reviews tells a more reliable story than an equally scored product with 50.

What Our Scores Mean

Our 10-point scale maps to ten distinct levels. Every product in our collection has already been pre-selected as a top contender in its category, which is why you won't see scores below 7.0 — we don't feature products that don't meet our baseline.

Where Our Data Comes From

We aggregate verified buyer feedback across major US retailers and e-commerce platforms. Our analysis is based on thousands of real purchase experiences — not handpicked testimonials, not influencer endorsements, and not AI-generated reviews.

For each product, we analyze the full picture: overall rating, total number of reviews, the distribution of ratings across all star levels, and patterns in written buyer feedback. This multi-layered approach gives us — and you — a more complete view than any single number can provide.

What We Don't Do

We believe you deserve to know what we're not, just as much as what we are.

We don't accept payment for higher scores.
No brand can pay to move from "Good" to "Excellent" on our site. Our scores are calculated the same way for every product, every time.

We don't let commission rates influence our scores or product placement. Every product is evaluated using the same methodology regardless of whether we earn a higher or lower affiliate commission from the retailer. Our revenue model is based on volume and trust, not on steering you toward specific products. See our Advertising Disclosure for full details.

We don't test products ourselves. We believe that thousands of verified buyers — people who spent their own money and used the product in their own lives — provide more reliable data than any single reviewer ever could.

We don't fabricate or rewrite reviews. The buyer insights on our product cards are drawn directly from real feedback. We organize and highlight what matters, but we don't put words in anyone's mouth.

We don't feature every product on the market. Our collections are curated starting points, not exhaustive catalogs. If a product is on our site, it already passed our initial selection criteria.

FAQ

Why is the highest score around 9.6 and not a perfect 10?

Because almost no product achieves universal buyer satisfaction. A 10.0 would require a perfect 5.0-star aggregate rating, which is extremely rare for products with hundreds or thousands of reviews. Our scale reflects reality, not marketing.

Why are all scores between 7 and 10?

Because we curate our collections before we score them. We don't feature products with poor buyer ratings — there's no value in telling you what to avoid. Every product on our site has already cleared a quality threshold. The score shows you where it stands among the best.

How often are scores updated?

We review and refresh our data periodically to ensure scores reflect current buyer sentiment. Ratings can shift as new reviews come in, and we update our scores accordingly. Each product card shows the date of our most recent analysis.

Do you earn commissions on purchases?

Yes. We participate in affiliate programs, which means we may earn a commission when you purchase through our links — at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund the site. Importantly, commissions have zero influence on our scores. The scoring formula is applied identically regardless of which retailer or affiliate program is involved. For full details, see our Advertising Disclosure.

A product has a polarization flag. Should I avoid it?

Not necessarily. A polarization flag means buyer experiences are split — some people love it, others had problems. This often comes down to sizing, compatibility with specific use cases, or quality variation between batches. Check the product card's detailed breakdown to see what the common issues are. If they don't apply to your situation, the product might still be a great fit.

How do you handle products with very few reviews?

We apply a data confidence adjustment. Products with fewer than 100 verified ratings receive a slight score reduction to account for the statistical uncertainty. As more reviews come in and the score stabilizes, the adjustment is removed.

Can brands or retailers pay to be featured?

No. Our collections are curated based on product data, not business relationships. We do not accept payment for inclusion, placement, or higher scores. Any sponsored content on our site is clearly labeled as such and kept separate from our scored collections.
